Code of Conduct
Purpose:
This Code of Conduct outlines standards of personal and professional conduct that all persons who attend or participate in any HGYS class, training session, event or activity, including members, students, instructors, volunteers and parents (“persons”), must strive to uphold.
HGYS IS COMMITTED TO MAINTAINING A SAFE, RESPECTFUL, SUPPORTIVE AND ENJOYABLE ENVIRONMENT FOR EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF BACKGROUND, IDENTITY OR POSITION WITHIN THE CLUB.
All persons covered by this Code are responsible for modelling and promoting appropriate behaviour by:
Compliance with laws and regulations:
- Adhering to our Child Safe Policy, and other relevant HGYS policies;
- Reporting any violations, unsafe conduct or unethical behaviour promptly to HGYS leaders.
Respect and inclusivity:
- Taking all reasonable steps to protect children and all persons
from abuse;
- Treating everyone with respect, including listening to and valuing the ideas and opinion of others;
- Welcoming all children and their families and carers;
- Respecting other cultures and our own, and accepting religious and political differences.
Integrity and honesty:
- Listening to each other and responding to them respectfully;
- Complying with any HGYS guidelines on physical contact;
- Respect the privacy of participants, members and their families, and do not disclose any private information or make inappropriate contact over the phone, email or social media.
Professionalism:
- Conduct yourself appropriately and/or professionally at all times, both within HGYS, our community and during external engagements;
- Upholding the reputation and values of HGYS.
Safety and Well-being:
- Prioritising the safety, health, and well-being of yourself and others.
- Maintaining a safe and supportive environment free from harassment, discrimination or any form of harm, including verbal and physical harm;
- Bullying, harassment, or intimidation of any individual/person within HGYS is strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to verbal, physical, or cyberbullying. Any instances of bullying will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate disciplinary action will be taken. HGYS encourages prompt reporting of bullying and will provide support to victims of bullying, where appropriate.
Conflict resolution:
- Resolving conflicts and disagreements constructively and respectfully;
and
- Seeking mediation and assistance from appropriate channels when needed.
In addition, HGYS instructors and other adults in position of responsibility will not:
- Seek to use younger participants and members in any way to meet the needs of adults.
- Ignore or disregard any concerns, suspicions or disclosures of child abuse that have been raised.
- Use prejudice, oppressive behaviour or language with any persons.
- Engage in violent physical games.
- Discriminate based on age, gender, race, culture, vulnerability or sexuality.
- Initiate unnecessary physical contact with any persons with regard to activities they can do for themselves, such as using the toilet or changing clothes.
- Develop ‘special’ relationships with specific persons or show favouritism through the provision of gifts or inappropriate attention.
- Contact any persons inappropriately over the phone, email or social media.
- Have unauthorised contact with any person online or by phone.
Consequences for Violations:
Violations of this Code of Conduct may result in disciplinary actions being taken by HGYS, including removal from a class, training session, event or activity, suspension, termination of membership (where applicable) and reporting to relevant authorities as required by law.
